The battle between Putin and Ukraine continues as Russia pours military weapons into the Ukraine’s territory to support the Russian military. This act is not only continuing to terrorize Ukraine, but also shows that Putin has no intentions abiding by last month’s ceasefire agreement.
After the agreement made in Minsk, Belarus last month, Russia is obligated to withdraw all troops and any weapons from Ukraine and return control of the border to the Kyiv government. However, Putin has ignored this and continues to send weapons to Russian military in Ukraine. According to the Chairman of Russian Parliament’s International Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev, there are no Russian troops in the Ukraine. What do these mixed opinions mean and how is the rest of the world handling this situation?
According to the U.S Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, Victoria Nuland has reported that President Obama has not made a decision on arming the Kyiv government. “The kinds of equipment that the Ukrainian forces are confronting are much more sophisticated than what they have,” stated Nuland in an article on The National Post. “I think the number one thing is for Russia to stop sending arms over the border so that we can have real politics.”
Meanwhile, while the debate continues, citizens of Ukraine are forced to live in turmoil with many anti-government protests between the police. Many people have been threatened, detained or kidnapped for hours or days. The battle between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian separatists has left destruction causing terrified elderly women to see shelter in the basement of buildings.
My prayers go out for the families (especially the children) of this nation and to the ones suffering. I also pray for not only our government, but for others that they will make the right decision when it comes to protecting this country. This country holds a special place in my heart because it is the first country where we developed relationships with families and HOPE began working with many of them. I pray for protection for all of them, and I hope you join me in this prayer.
