In October 2013, I was honored to be recognized for HOPE International as one of the six 2013 Epoch Award winners. The Epoch Awards honor unsung heroes who are making a difference in the world. Located at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, the ceremony was a beautiful black tie event filled with people from all over the world who have huge hearts and passion for making the world a better place.
HOPE International is the organization I founded in 1997 in effort to help people in poverty achieve their dreams and get out of poverty while living and learning the Gospel. Through microfinance and biblically based training and savings services, HOPE International strives to partner with families by helping them leverage their God given gifts, skills and abilities to restore dignity in their lives and to break the cycle of poverty. HOPE International focuses on providing hand ups and not handouts.
Along with the award, HOPE International was presented with a donation from the Epoch Awards to help us continue our work. There were so many nominees with amazing stories, and being only one of the six winners makes me overjoyed to think that people believe in HOPE International and what we are doing.
From leaders of programs that aid girls and young women who have been trafficked in the sex trade to leaders of programs that address the HIV/AIDS and water crisis in Africa, the people I met and heard about at the 2013 Epoch Awards were extremely inspiring.

Until next time, Jeff Rutt
